The Four Elements series was conceived and designed by Laks in 2002. “Water was the first panel I visualized. As I closed my eyes, I saw a woman coming out of the water like a spirit. Water and Earth each came to me as feminine elements, while I saw Wind and Fire as masculine spirits.” Both men characters were drawn from live models. Fire was inspired by Laks’ son, and Wind was modeled after a worker in her studio. The feminine spirits were drawn from her imagination.
