components in kiln608

The two-part kit known as Modeling Glass, combined with glass powders and water, becomes a non-sticky material that can be shaped, sculpted, molded, coiled, and otherwise worked similar to clay. Colors are unlimited, as are possibilities. When fired, the binders and medium burn off, and your work of fused glass art emerges from the kiln.

Powder work608

In this new webinar, students will learn how to mix and work with multiple colors of Modeling Glass to make unique dimensional compositions inspired by the magic of a verdant blooming forest. We will be using silicone molds to make a variety of highly detailed components. This is not freeze-and-fuse. Students will then assemble the fired components onto a precut sheet glass mask blank. After firing, these will be slumped over a mask draping form designed by Lois. The possibilities of Modeling Glass are endless…see for yourself!

BetterLoisMask608I've been an artist most of my life, working in pastel, acrylic, scratchboard, watercolor, etc. and as a professional freelance designer. But when I tried glass for the first time about 10 years ago, it was life changing. I developed unique methods of working with glass powders, and I created Modeling Glass in order to make three-dimensional shapes without the need for making molds. I’m most well-known for my realistic larger-than-life glass feathers made entirely with powders and Modeling Glass. I’ve taught workshops in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. for several years. Now I'm teaching my process of making glass masks using Modeling Glass, which is a completely new workshop format.

You can see more of my art at www.glassbirdstudios.com, and on Facebook at Glass Bird Studios. Learn more about Modeling Glass at www.modelingglass.com.
