Armadillo Glass Art Initiative, a glassblowing and fundraising effort in Austin, Texas, has successfully raised over $250,000 for Meals on Wheels Central Texas, over the past six years. Borosilicate artists donate their time and talents for the silent and live auctions of their work created during this live event.

Awarding Excellence in Kiln Formed Glass

Participants recently completed their participation in the 10th biennial juried competition sponsored by Bullseye Glass Co. The 43 finalists, who represented 12 countries, were evaluated on their creativity, craftsmanship, and design by a panel of three distinguished judges. The company also created a companion exhibit to celebrate the work of former Emerge finalists.

On May 19, 2018, Murano, Italy, served as host to the Glass Art Society conference Glass Fashion Show. Boats went along the canals carrying models wearing costumes made of glass. Artist Laura Donefer and her husband served as coordinators for this unique glass art extravaganza.

During a recent trip to Lauscha, Germany, Marcie Davis researched the history of montage. Jürgen Kob shared the work of his uncle, Albrecht Greiner-Mai, creator of some of the finest examples of the montage technique. Kurt Wallstab, early montage superstar, passed the technique on to Andre Gutgesell, who still creates these wonderful vessels.

The Glass Art Society (GAS) has announced that the organization’s new interim executive director will be Brandi Clark, who has an extensive background in nonprofit arts administration. GAS also moved to its new location in Seattle, Washington, on September 4, 2018. The organization plans to continue growing its community of artists, educators, and collectors.

The New Graduate Review 2018

The Contemporary Glass Society, which provides members with opportunities to exhibit their work, recently selected 18 graduates from the U.K. and Ireland to introduce their work in The New Graduate Review 2018. Natsumi Jones was awarded first place, David James Wood was selected as second place winner, and Marzena Ostromecka received third place recognition.

Linda Lichtman applies a painterly aesthetic to handblown stained and flashed glass. The artist works with two-dimensional glass elaborated with etching, silver stains, enamels, paints, and sandblasting. For most of her career she has emphasized site-specific public art for civic buildings, hospitals, transportation stations, libraries, and schools.

With an incredible historical selection of stained glass art throughout the city, Cleveland provided a stain glass lover’s dream. An air of education and sharing spread throughout the weekend.
