When Naval Lieutenant Commander Ingrid Parrington discovered Islamic geometric art while in Abu Dhabi, she knew that she wanted to create designs like those in glass. Building the patterns on a blank sheet of paper, which can take weeks or months, rather than just repeating patterns over and over on a computer is the main part of Parrington’s process.

Because Jerry Preston and John Emery started creating stained glass lamps before Odyssey kits were available, they began right away to design new original lamps when they formed Preston Studios in 1976. Creating lamps is a passion for the duo more than it is a vocation, and many hours of work and thought go into every part of each project.

U.S. Army veteran Geoffrey Bowton, while deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in the early 2000’s, found himself needing to craft creative solutions for his job but also for his spirit. His body of pâte de verre vessels holds distant combat memories, which have been transformed to investigate the various struggles of his veteran life, post service.

The Glass Art Society (GAS) recently held its international conference, which featured presentations, exhibitions, activities, and special events hosted throughout downtown Tacoma, Washington. GAS strives to stimulate communication among artists, educators, students, collectors, gallery and museum personnel, art critics, manufacturers, and all others interested in and involved with the production, technology, and aesthetics of glass.

CGS Exhibition at the Stourbridge Glass Museum

Since its beginnings 25 years ago, the Contemporary Glass Society has developed into a thriving and proactive society supporting a membership of over 1,100 British and international contemporary glass artists. To celebrate, CGS was delighted to showcase a special three-month-long exhibition entitled CGS at 25: Past, Present, the Future, hosted by the new Stourbridge Glass Museum.

The Corning Museum of Glass ISGB Presidents Collection

The ISGB Presidents Collection was started in 2007 by ISGB President Sara LeGrand along with paperweight artist Paul Stankard. Since then, the ISGB Presidents have chosen 10 artists to represent their own collections at the end of their presidencies. The Presidents also include a bead representing their own work in their collection.
