Kaleidoscope Making
Instructor: Lori Riley

In this fun filled one-day class you will make an incredible kaleidoscope. The kaleidoscope is designed around a black powder coated square steel tube with an "eight point", three piece front surface mirror system that has two different fused glass wheels. All to create an endless collage of infinite color variations so crisp and clear, you'll have a hard time putting it down.

The kaleidoscope is 12" in length and comes with a black wood stand specifically designed to complement the body shape of the kaleidoscope.

You will start by doing simple lampwork to make components for the primary color and secondary accent wheels. No previous lampworking experience is necessary. We'll have lampworked parts available for those that do not want to do lampworking. Then, using your lampworked parts, glass chards, frit, dichro and colored glass sheet, you will design and assemble all the components on glass disks to be kiln fused.

While the glass wheels are fusing you will assemble and install all the body components; optical lens, viewing cap, mirror system and break for lunch. By then the wheels will be ready to apply trim and axle hubs followed by attaching them to the body.

You will leave with a beautiful kaleidoscope for yourself or as a great gift for family or friends valued at $250.00, and learned how to do simple lampworking, fuse glass, construct a mirror system and fully trim out an elaborate kaleidoscope.

No previous experience required.

One day class. Hours are 9 to 5.
Cost is $250. Includes lunch and all materials.
