Ed Hoy's International
The Fabric of Glass
Lisa Becker - 3 day class

Permanently preserve an article of clothing or fabric by casting it in glass. This class will guide you through all the processes from preparing the fabric, creating the mold, firing and annealing considerations, and un-casting of the dimensional piece.  Students will create one positive casting of fabric as well as one smaller fragment study relief casting. A relief casting is a negative image type casting that creates an almost holographic image in glass.

Various mold materials for this process will be discussed, as well as how they can be adapted to processes outside of fabric.  This technique is great for small clothing such as baby clothing that has been cut to size, or anything that can lay flat such as fabric purses. For the positive casting, the article needs to be no larger than 12 x 14. Baby clothes can be found at many second hand stores, look for sizes up to 6 months. Evening gloves, knit hats, corsets, etc. all work well for this process.

Cost: $495.00 / Loyalty Rewards $445.00

Location 27625 Diehl Road, Warrenville, IL 60555
This method can damage the clothing item. Please take this into consideration when choosing your item to cast.
