The 54th annual Seminar On Glass at The Corning Museum of Glass, to be held October 16-17. This year’s theme, Pyrex and Material Culture, complements the Museum’s exhibit: America’s Favorite Dish: Celebrating a Century of Pyrex. The exhibit focuses on personal connections to Pyrex, advertising and its role in the popularization of Pyrex, designing for the mid-century home, and the role of women and home economics. All of these offer lenses that contribute to understanding Pyrex and material culture.

Speakers in the Pyrex and Material Culture Seminar include:

  J. Ritchie Garrison: Director of the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture and Department Chair, Material Culture, University of Delaware

Regina Lee Blaszczyk: Author, Imagining Consumers: Design and Innovation from Wedgwood to Corning

Katherine Parkin: Author, Food Is Love: Advertising and Gender Roles in Modern America

Betsy Cromley: Author, Cooking, Eating, and the Architecture of American Houses

This year’s Seminar will also include a panel discussing the design of Pyrex, led by Rob Cassetti, Senior Director of Creative Services and Marketing at The Corning Museum of Glass, a collectors' panel led by Tina Oldknow, Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Glass, as well as a Pyrex Dealer Fair showcasing public collections of Pyrex.
