Instructor: Carmen Flores Tanis

You've read about it in the latest issue of Glass Patterns Quarterly - a fun new way to etch dichroic glass! In this class, Carmen Flores Tanis will go into detail as she teaches you her new technique for etching your unique artwork onto dichroic glass using a laser printer and a printable resist film. Other than the film, this technique uses no special tools or materials, is simple, inexpensive and as long as your image is in high contrast black and white - your artwork can be anything - clipart, photos, logos or original artwork. Imagine the possibilities!

You will learn:

• how to prepare your artwork in Photoshop
• what types of glass work best
• how to print out your artwork and apply it to the glass
• how to apply the etching cream and
• how to remove the resist.

You'll practice using ring saws and grinders and finish up the first session prepping the pieces for kiln firing overnight.

The next day, you'll return to assemble your new dichroic treasures into a 8” x 12” table top/tray using the super easy, super quick “double indirect method”.

Feel free to bring along your favorite black & white high contrast image on USB stick or CD and you can try your hand at etching it!
